Pressure stability and flow rate of air pumps used in spray painting operations

In the spray painting operation, the pressure stability and flow rate of the air pump are the key factors affecting the spray painting quality. The two need to be optimized in coordination to meet different operation requirements. The following is the specific analysis:

Pressure stability

The influence on the quality of spray painting

Pressure stability directly affects the flatness, gloss and adhesion of the paint surface. If the air pressure fluctuates too much, it will cause uneven spraying, resulting in problems such as sagging, orange peel or color difference. Therefore, stable air pressure is the basis for ensuring the spray painting effect.

Implementation method

Air storage tank design: An air pump with an air storage tank can buffer air and moisture, making the air pressure more stable and reducing the probability of water discharge.

Filtration system: A well-designed filtration system can remove moisture, impurities and oil stains from the air, preventing them from entering the spray gun and thus avoiding air pressure fluctuations caused by contaminants.

Continuous operation: During the spray painting process, keep the air pump running continuously and avoid frequent starts and stops to prevent unstable air pressure.

Adjustment method

Gradually adjust the air pressure through the pressure regulating valve on the air pump to find the most suitable air pressure value. Different spray painting operations require different air pressures, usually ranging from 0.3 to 0.5 megapascals.

The influence on the quality of spray painting

The size of the flow rate directly affects the thickness of the paint film and the quality of the sprayed surface. If the flow rate is too large, it will be difficult to atomize in place and is prone to sagging. If the flow rate is too small and the atomization is too fine, excessive solvent evaporation will occur, which can easily lead to the orange peel phenomenon.

Matching with spray painting operations

The objects to be sprayed: Larger automotive parts may require air pumps with higher pressure and flow rate for painting, while for some small-scale repair painting, relatively smaller air pumps can be selected.

Spraying methods: Different spraying methods correspond to different spray guns and have different requirements for flow rate. For instance, airless spraying relies on the atomization of the high-pressure paint itself and can use a relatively large flow rate. Mixed air spraying involves both paint pressure and air atomization, and the usage flow rate is relatively moderate. Air spraying relies entirely on air atomization, and the flow rate it can spray is relatively small.

Regulation and Optimization

According to the spraying requirements, adjust the viscosity, fluidity and other properties of the coating. If necessary, add an appropriate amount of thinner or adjust the spraying parameters to ensure a stable spraying flow rate. At the same time, regularly inspect the paint supply system (including the paint pump, paint supply pipeline, valves, etc.) to ensure its normal operation and avoid unstable spray gun flow caused by paint supply system failure.
