Anti-freezing preservation measures for air pumps in low-temperature environments

The anti-freezing preservation of air pumps in low-temperature environments requires comprehensive measures from four dimensions: medium management, equipment protection, environmental control, and operation management. The following are specific measures and technical key points:

First, medium management: Eliminate the residue of liquid water

Drain the water in the pump body and pipelines

Immediately close the inlet and outlet valves after the machine stops, and completely discharge the medium through the vent valve at the lowest point. For vertical pumps, the bottom flange needs to be removed and the residual liquid should be purged with nitrogen.

Case: A certain chemical plant failed to drain the circulating water in the pump when it was shut down in winter, resulting in the pump body cracking at -15℃ due to freezing. The repair cost exceeded 80,000 yuan.

Add antifreeze or anticoagulant

Use ethylene glycol type antifreeze (with a freezing point below -35℃), add it at a volume ratio of 30% to 50%, and regularly test the concentration (measured by a refractometer).

Note: Ethylene glycol is corrosive and should be used in combination with corrosion inhibitors. Avoid contact with rubber seals.

Second, equipment protection: Physical isolation from the influence of low temperatures

Insulation layer wrapping

The pump body and pipelines are made of B1 grade fireproof rubber and plastic insulation material (thickness ≥30mm), and the outer layer is protected by 0.5mm thick aluminum sheet.

Detachable insulation covers should be used for special-shaped parts such as valves and flanges to ensure sealing at the joints.

Electric heating tracing system

Self-limiting temperature heating tapes should be installed at key parts (such as the pump casing and inlet and outlet pipes) to maintain a temperature of ≥5℃.

The gas transmission pump station in a certain oilfield adopts constant power heating tapes, and the pump body temperature remains stable at 8-10℃ in an environment of -30℃.

Third, environmental control: Maintain the operating temperature of the equipment

Indoor environmental control

The temperature in the storage room should be ≥5℃ and the humidity ≤60%, and an industrial dehumidifier (with a daily dehumidification capacity of ≥50L) should be configured.

Case: Due to excessive humidity (85%) in the air pump room of a certain electronics factory, the insulation resistance of the motor decreased, causing a short circuit fault.

Local heating of the equipment

Electric heating plates are installed on precision components (such as pressure sensors and control panels), and a lower temperature limit (3℃) is set.

The air pump in a certain laboratory maintains the temperature inside the control cabinet through a heating plate to prevent the parameter drift of electronic components.

Fourth, Operation Management: Preventive maintenance and emergency response

Regular inspection and trial operation

Start the air pump and run it no-load for 10 minutes every week to check the motor temperature rise (≤70℃) and vibration value (≤4.5mm/s).

Test the freezing point of the antifreeze monthly and replenish or replace the failed parts.

Freeze emergency handling

When freezing is found, do not use open flames to bake or pour boiling water over it. Instead, the following measures should be adopted:

Natural thawing: Move to an environment of ≥5℃ and let it stand for more than 12 hours.

Thawing with warm water: Slowly pour in warm water at a temperature of no more than 40℃, with the assistance of a hair dryer.

Case: At a construction site, the copper pipe of an air pump burst due to thawing with boiling water, resulting in a direct loss of over 30,000 yuan.

Fifth, selection and usage suggestions

Low-temperature resistant models are preferred

Select air pumps with a working temperature range of -40℃ to +60℃, such as using cold-resistant rubber seals and low-temperature lubricating greases (such as Mobil SHC 600 series).

Intelligent monitoring system

Configure temperature sensors (with an accuracy of ±0.5℃) and pressure transmitters, and upload data to the SCADA system in real time.

After a certain natural gas station installed an intelligent monitoring system for its gas pumps, the fault warning time was advanced by 12 hours.

Training and Drill

Operators need to undergo specialized training on low-temperature protection and master skills such as the preparation of antifreeze and the wiring of electric tracing.

Anti-freezing emergency drills are conducted every quarter, with a focus on training subjects such as equipment thawing and troubleshooting.
